I agree with Rick, "buy the book." I was very impressed with David Burch's book "Fundamentals of Kayak Navigation. Unless you paddle on your own little lake, in your own little world, the information contained in this book is indispensible for any boater; especially kayakers. You can have your "bombproof roll" down pat, but if you do not know where you are; you certainly do not know where in "Hell" (and you will think you are there)you are going. I have been on the water for over thirty years fishing, racing in power boats and sailing. (Albeit this kayak thing is new. In August I bought a 12' rec. boat for my bird photography and now I am almost ready for glass on my Night Heron). Anyway, things happen really fast on open and sheltered waters and with out a few hundred horse power to beat the incoming weather or electronics to proceed safely through "pea soup fog; the knowledge and ideas contained in this publication are well worth the reading; TWICE. After all, it is your life, is that worth the fifteen dollars the book cost?
