S&G: gluing up panels

I am starting to glue the panels of an Arctic Tern today. When I built my Osprey double I think I used wax paper to prevent unwanted gluing of bricks, wood, etc. Am I right? Can wax paper be used instead of plastic to keep things separate? Thanks
