Should work fine. The epoxy won't soak through, and even if the stuff tears when you try to remove it a quick wipe with a sanding block or a scraper will get it off completely. Waxpaper, or freezer paper also tend to have more substance and not wrinkle, so there are no wrinkle patterns to sand out.
