I just checked out The Merganser on Shearwater's page and it is a very pretty boat! By the specs and pics it appears that it would be a very good choice for my daughter.

You say it goes together quicker. Why does it go together quicker than other kits? Or did you just mean that it went together quicker using the kit as compared to plans?

For the application at hand, the only downside to the Merganser that I see is that it costs more than the offerings from Pygmy and CLC.
