: Russ: I had some really dark cedar that I wanted to use on my deck and
: contrast it with something light. I had some douglas fir (not the 50 yr
: old old growth that you have, but run-of-the-mill Home Depot's finest). I
: used it on the entire rear deck of my Great Auk and it came out nice. The
: picture below shows the result.

Hey Marcel,
Let me say from the get-go that you are NOT the Marcel that I refered to in my last post.
Now that thats out of the way, I'd like to say that I think your site is great and I will go back to it and take a more exhaustive look when time permits.
First of all, the fact that you tied the strips together from each board tells me that you know what you are doing, and secondly, the fact that you said that, "the forms had to be aligned perfectly" (paraphrasd) tells me that, quite possible, you are a Perfectionest! Boy, do I feel sorry for you but even more so for the people around you because I am the same way. I not only drive myself crazy, "obsessively" trying to make everything perfect, but I drive everyone around me crazy as well! I, also, have trouble accepting the fact that we do not live in a PERFECT world! Only when we depart this life and enter into the realm of the "heavenly", (without prying into one's religious beliefs)( I never discuss family, religion, or politics with friends because then friends quickly become enemys) in my belief, do we truely experience perfection.
However, when I see the pictures of some of the "Artwork In Wood" that are posted here rather frequently, I can't help but wonder which realm of existance
I am in. I never realized that there was such a close link between religion and kayaking. I guess its all a matter of perspective. And, just for the record, I've never seen a kayak I didn't like! WOW! Starting to ramble. Guess its time for bed!
Anyway, I see from the pics that you included the cockpit recess on your GA and I was wondering if you did the flat deck or the slightly higher deck with the more rounded lines.
And BTW the contrast of the douglas fir/cedar looks fantastic!
Happy Building.
Charles.
