Great web-site! Very thorough pictures of each step. Many will find it helpful when beginning. I did my Rob-Roy canoe on the Glen-L Marine site. Almost done with it and they have the entire process in their Photos and Registry pages.
I use both the Non-descript piece of metal, and the one I bought at Sears. It has a handle about 10 - 12" long and they offer a kit with about 5 different blades that clip into position. I went to Sears last month and they had the one I like best on sale ( or a misprint of their price tag ) for $2.99 instead of $4.99 so I bought around 6 of them. ( all they had ) This would be the blade with the straight side and the halfmoon side. ( like a big smile ) It works both inside and outside the boat. Having the handled tool allows you to apply a bit more pressure and cut quicker. Of course, there are other brands, and many look and work the same, but Sears is just around the corner and they sell very adequate tools.
Hope this helps!
