Both of those have their place in kayakbuilding, I have and use both kinds. My favorite is Carbide scraper from Harbor Freight, see

I have some others, but they are all variations on the same theme. Curved ones work well on the inside, of strip built kayaks, flat will work for non-toutured plywood kayaks.
