one of the problems with the goo from Home Depot, such as Elmers wood filler, is that it is not designed to be adhesive or really all that strong
the other is that it may not bond well with your epoxy.

you will end up with a week spot under the glass, simmilar to having a bubble which will be a weak spot and a stress concentrator.

Which in the long run will probably never give you any problems.

sawdust or sanding dust is cheap and easy to come by, and the extra effort in mixing is neglagable. In the long run it is probalby more expensive and a bother to use that store slop.
