I believe I've read (on this board?) about a rule of thumb which applies at least for skin-on-frame boats, which says that the ideal width of a boat should be the width of the paddler's butt + the width of their hand on either side. By that rule, I should find a boat 21" wide. That's measured standing... when I sit down I sorta... squish a little wider. ;-)
