This photo shows how am smooothing (I mistyped that, but somehow it looks appropriate ;)) the trimmed strips. It is a scrap strip with a piece of 80 grit glued to the edge. When the sandpaper gets dull, I peel it off, clean up the edge and glue on another strip of paper.
