I noticed one poster referred to 'Rob' (must mean Laughing Loon, Rob) saying tightbond being his recommended glue for decks because it resists the softening effect of heat from the sun. This is NOT what he says. In fact Rob says just the oppisite, he warns against using tightbond on the deck for just this reason (it is subject to 'creep' when it is heated). Rob recommends using tightbond for the hull and gorilla glue for the deck to the best of my memory. I am Not trying to be difficult, but didn't like seeing Rob's view on this being represented as exactly the oppisite of what he really says. I find 'gorilla' glue to be a very poor glue to use for strip glueing because it expands as it sets (as other posters here have said). Rob himself does use this glue (gorilla) for his decks, I believe. I have heard of other forms of 'resin' type glue being used for the deck, but don't know what type is best. For myself I only use epoxy for gluing the strips. I know others don't like it, but it is the best glue to use and the ONLY reason they don't use it is the difficulty associated with its use (and the expense). For me I want the best glue and effort or expense are not good reasonjs for not using the best glue. Any carpenters glue is ok, but it is not the best no matter how you use or slice it.
