Don,

Yes, polyurethane glues expand during the cure, but I suspect they do so at a very early stage, thus not really forcing the strips apart. I have used it and found no joint expansion at all. See the picture below of the deck joints on Holly's Silver put together with polyurethane. It has experienced some hot days in sun with air temps in the hundreds, so I guess it worked. Also I think Bill Price used polyurethane on the deck of his hybrid seen at R2K2. The joints on his boat were very tight.

As far as messiness goes, repackaging the glue into a plastic bottle with a small orifice allows a tidier application. In the long run I found polyurethane glue easier to work with than titebond. However if you are the kind of person that ends up with stuff all over your hands, shoes, and pants, it may not be a good choice.

Ted

: Gorilla, and it's polyurethane glue cousins from Titebond and System THree,
: would probably not be very good for stripping. THe glue expands as it
: cures, and must be clamped very tightly which is difficult with strips.

: It is a nice glue for laminating however. Very strong and waterproof. Easy to
: use.
