Go to www.harborfreight.com and search for "lumber" (without the quote marks) You'll get three listings, one is for plumber's gloves, and the other two are tools you can use. The top one should be an "Alaskan" sawmill, which is a device that mounts on the bar of the chaisaw, and is parallel to it. This rides on a flat side of your log, or on the flat side of a board temporarily tacked to your log. The distance between the mill's guide and the chainsaw chain determines the thickness of your board.

The other, much cheaper device (about $19) also attaches to the bar on your chainsaw, but it follows a guide (a 2x4) which is nailed ot the side of your log. You have to move the guide every time you cut another board. This may be a fast and inexpensive way to cut a fairly neat 3 or 4 inch wide slab off of the log. A second cut would make that into a 4x12 with another 4x ?? piece being the remainder. Something that size could be handled by one man and carried in a truck to a lumberyard and resawn by them to give you boards.
