The design of both kayaks centers around the double, as I felt it easier
to design a double that converted to a single, rather than the other way
around. The double was designed with performance in mind. It's trim
dimensions, good rocker, deadrise, and light weight, estimated at 50-55 lbs
when finished, should certainly put it in the performance end of the touring
spectrum.

The single (See Pic) is a fairly low volume design. It should be a
light weight ( 30-35lb) and nimble performer. It is a "natural" conversion
as it requires no additional components. I prefer singles in the
15 to 16 foot range, but this certainly is not everyone's preference.

There is actually a third option available in the form of a single that has
a 17' LOA X 22" - 23" beam. It does however, require a new center cross
section and addition supports for the coaming.

I've long felt that folding kayaks have the same performance potential
as any other kayak; be it woodstrip, S&G, or traditional SOF.
What has plagued folding kayaks since the turn of the 20th century
has been the dominance of extremely wide, low performance commercially
produced single and double designs. There are exceptions, but not many.

Folders, have in effect, been long since considered sluggish, non-performers.
Modern designs, modern materials, and modern methods, have the potential to
greatly alter the status quo.

Cheers,

Tom
