It sounds like you tried to use poly on the hull strips. It's good to know before hand that it does not work well there, so thanks for that. I'm also not sure that poly is necessary to prevent joint creep under heat. Having only built one strip-built I don't have much to compare with. Maybe with you can give us an evaluation once you have the Silver complete.
