: At Christmas I picked up a couple of packages of aniline dye from Lee Valley.
: I am going to run some tests on scrap okoume and if I come up with a
: combination that I like I intend to dye the hull plates before stitching.
: The instructions are pretty straight forward. Anyone have any
: experience/precautions that you care to pass along?

Grant, I used aniline dyes on my kayak and the results were very nice. This was a year ago. The dyes faded after being exposed to sunlight. I have included a picture of what the kayak looked like. I will try to get my buddy to take an 'after' picture next week. The colours became very subdued. The effect of the flames is still there but it faded to the point where the flames look more realistic. The process does work and the effect can be stunning, but it will fade.
Regards, Erich.
