Rick,
Here is my building sched.

I fair and glass the hull with forms in. Once cured in 48 hours, I remove the forms from the beam (external beams) and put whole assembly on cradles and build the deck. Tape all the edges so that deck can not be adhered to hull.
I do not strip over the area in which the cockpit will be. Once complete, I fair and glass the deck making sure to not allow any resin or overhanging glass to stick to hull (masked with lots of tape and wax paper). Once it has cured over two days, I reach in from open cockpit araea and knock out the forms from the inside one at a time. Once the central area is loose, I can pry up the ends from the sides and knock out the last few forms in bow and stern.

Not having built and Outer Island, I am not familiar with the design, but on mine, any overhang of deck strips at sheer is removed in fairing process to meet sheer line of hull.

Hope this give you some alternative iedeas.
