Jay, fairing the hull of my first strip kayak before doing the deck helped me identify some problems with my imperfect wood working that I avoided on the deck. It also broke up fairly large tasks into smaller parts, so I did not get so tired of sanding.

I only faired the hull of my Guillemot before doing the deck, and did not glass it, but would glass first on my next boat simply so that I'm not doing the same task day after day.
