Similar but a little different twist...

Glassing the deck when it is a flat hole always seems easier to me. I cut the hole before glassing, but cutting could be delayed until after the outside of the deck is glassed.

My schedule:

Then glass inside. Then build the vertical pieces. Then glass the inside of the ring and connect it to the inside of the deck with fiberglass. Then glass outside of ring with a fillet if it makes you feel better. Then epoxy the rings that make up the rim.

Nick says to glass the deck and the cockpit coaming at the same time. No way I could figure out how to make that look right.

Because it will be some time between glassing the deck and the ring, and the epoxy overlaps, make sure you *sand the deck* next to the coaming well just before doing this epoxy so the two layers bond well to each other.
