: Could you do a balance beam with the resin at one end, 43 units from center,
: and the hardener at the other, 100 units from center?

Yeah, I could'a done it that way. The construction of the scale would have been a little more straightforward, but you'd have to use two cups. This was one of those projects that started as a "I wonder if I could a scale to use in metering my epoxy mixing?". I got the idea after I made a real neat home-made scale to weigh the kids pinewood derby cars (to make sure we stayed under the 5 oz limit). My goal here was to make a scale that would allow mixing in one cup to avoid the problem of the material left over in the other cup that ends up messing up the mix ratio. (the second cup in the picture is empty and is there just to make the math of the balance work out right -- it gets no epoxy in it).
Again, there are obvoiusly a bunch of good ways to measure your epoxy -- the real key is working up a ritual that you go through each time you mix, and do it the exactly the same way each time. My little invention worked well for me. It is accurate and almost impossible to mess up the mix ratio with. I don't have to rely on my counting skills, which are maybe not all that reliable especially at some of the late hours I spent working on the boat. And, personally, I don't trust the accuracy of measuring by volume and trying to sight to a line when pouring such a viscous liquid. But the real reason I made it was because it was a fun design problem to work out and I wanted to see if I could such a scale workable.
