Once Christmas was over, I set my sights on starting the Cirrus. The wood was purchased at Windsor Plywood, but instead of their inferior grade Okoume, they had BS1088 for the same price ($40sht). It took most of a day to cut and scarf the plywood into two 2 ft. by 20 foot sheets (Vaclav's scarfing jig works great and is amazingly simple to use). I waited almost two days for the epoxy to harden (50 degree highs and was being built in an open carport), then cut out the panels and all of the forms/cradles and had the hull wired and filleted in one day. The Cirrus hull is very easy to assemble, having temp interior forms and external cradles the plywood takes its shape right from the start. Running out of time and needing to transport this hull 60 miles on the freeway, I decided to glass inside the cockpit and along the inside scarfs and fill the ends with thickened epoxy. I know that the end pours are optional, I chose to do it. I'll also be adding sheerclamps (probably just two laminated 1" strips of leftover 4mm Okoume) to attatch the deck and rigging to. This kayak will not be built to be very light, more emphasis will be placed on durability and usablility. When it came time to head home the weather was too nasty to bring it with me anyway. I'll be picking it up this coming weekend and hope to finish the hull completely before stripping the deck. Sorry I don't have any good pictures, but this hull went together very quickly I didn't take an opportunity to shoot any photos, until it was time to leave.

The colored fillets and fill coats have been with System Three pigments and with the amounts I've used, do not seem to change the properties of the epoxy, other than of course the color.
