: I've been at the One Ocean Kayak site a lot lately and the more I read about
: Cirrus, the more excited I get. It looks like you are well on your way.
: I'd be real interested in trying it out when you are done. What's your
: plan for the deck: Strip, SOF?
This is a cool looking S&G design, I wish I had taken better/more pictures or if I had photos of the 6 foot model I'm building because it's farther along than this one and it really does have great lines. You will be more than welcome to try the Cirrus out this spring or summer once it's finished. I hope to be at more of the kayak and wood boat events this year as well - R2K3/Stiks etc...
The deck will get stripped, but I haven't decided if there's enough reason for bead/cove or if I'll try planing the strips. I would like to use 3/16" strips, but have not decided on species or design. Also the shape of the deck really had me thinking. I first thought that I would hold the sheer line and just use the same radii as my Chesapeake (16" and 22"), but when I tried that, it created an extremely low volume yak. I settled on something similar to Vaclav's design, but rounded each angle point out and that should yield a very close match to the true design. My model however, has the Chesapeake style deck. We'll see...
