My cedar loves changing color. Right now I have some outside which is a lovely silver color -- a far cry from the reddish brown it was when first cut.

Sand lightly over the boat and you might remove some of the outer layers of dead wood cells, some of which created the color bands you see. (You'll also remove any left oer adhesive from the tape.) That will diminish the banding. Epoxy will bring out a richer and deeper color, which will also hide soem of the banding, and exposure to light will eventually een things out to where you won't be able to notice there was ever a color band at all.
