Here in Baltimore there's a group of execs that kayak to work in the inner harbor,which is pretty much surrounded by the city. It's faster and more direct than driving around town. There was an article in the paper a year or two ago about these guys, showing one of them in his boat, in winter, no life jacket, no skirt, no wet or dry suit. A friend of mine who manages one of the local paddling shops offered to give these guys some instruction, but they declined. So far, no articles in the paper regarding anyone drowning on the way to work. It amazes me, how simple and safe people assume kayaking to be, when they first get into it.
