Slather? Just like buttering up some bread...sounds tasty. Anyway, you don't need to wait for the sealer coat to cure, then sand, etc. Way too much extra work.
Roll on a sealer coat of epoxy and squeegee off the excess. You need just enough to seal the wood. Now, before you did this you cutout your fiberglass cloth to fit the hull, positioned it, then rolled it up, set it aside. I apply the fiberglass cloth when the seal coat is ALMOST cured, just slightly tacky. This will help the cloth lay flat. Roll the cloth bundle out over the hull, then roll on or squeegee on your epoxy. I prefer the roller method, using high density 4" white foam rollers since that gives me more control over the epoxy, vs. pouring on a puddle and spreading it with a squeegee. Extra epoxy will only add weight, not strength.
