I see the advantages of the recess as lowering your cockpit rim which could reduce spray off the front, but more importantly lowers the rear to make layback rolls easier. In addition, the recess commonly provides a better fit for knee braces. I'd consider a more pronounced recess (as compared to your Spring Run) like Joe's King before I'd consider no recess, because I value the boat handling potential that's introduced. The disadvantage is the additional time it takes.
