Hi dtranche, I would call the Mill Creek a double paddle canoe since it has an open cockpit area. I had a similar idea for taking along my two little boys. This is how I see it: You can basically pick any double and then reconfigure the deck to suit your needs. Builders commonly convert doubles to triples and otherwise change deck profiles... I ended up building a double and then left the cockpit open - like the Mill Creek. It may prove to be a wet ride but it's a flat water boat anyway. Here's a shot of it. I'm finishing up the last few details for an early Spring launch.
I may do a "drop-in" SOF deck that will fit into the larger opening. That way I could still use it like a regular double if I want... Or I could make it more like a "Polynesian War Canoe" idea by putting an outrigger on it; I'm a glutton for punishment... Or I may just leave good-enough alone. We'll see what happens
