Hi Lennie
That sounds about right.At the same time you should locate the bulkheads and make sure the hatch is not too close.
I made enough room in the stern to put a sleeping bag between the stern hatch opening and the bulkhead. In the bow, the hatch opening is about 10-12 " forward of the bulkhead.I cam't reach into to bow, but far enough to stow gear.
If you tape on the hatch templates you'll pick locations that suit you.
While you're at it tape on the locations of any deck rigging you may want.That way you'll see where everything goes before you commit to saw and drill.
