I used regular colored ink jet printing with no problems. The fade has been minimal. The boat's varnish probably helps, and I also store the boats where they are out of the sun. Some people have also purposely put their decals on top of the glass (under the varnish) so they could sand them off later and re-apply if they fade too much.
