In Response To: Strip: splices (Russ Chambers)

As I stripped, I simply marked the two meeting points and associated overlap (I did all this by eye, approximating 1" to 1.5") Took the two strips to a bench. Clamped them with one the equivalent 1 - 1.5" behind the other and ran my block plane over them until there was a single smooth ramp. It took maybe 30 seconds per mate and they came out well. I would endorse Jay's points about color matching, marking accurately and locating joints in straighter areas.

Good luck
