I also used staple-less construction and first put down some starter strips along the sheer and along the centerline. I installed edge strips along the sheer after the interior of the deck was stripped. I have put up some photos on how I did it. http://www.seaspiritkayaks.com/SSS17/006_Strip_Deck/sss17stripdeck.htm

I found that the best way to avoid epoxy sags and puddles was to monitor the epoxy until it becomes tacky enough so it won’t run any more. As the epoxy cures, I use a foam brush to remove any epoxy runs that form. It means spending all the hours it takes.
