Bruce,

Glad to hear someone else has done this. How do you set up your boat to work inside it? Thus far I've put mine on its side. I can barely reach. Do you set yours upside down on saw horses?

Did you put the new foot braces in the same spot where the brackets had been?

Did you use a hack saw?

Thanks,

Al

: I replaced the same style braces in an old Valley boat last year. It was a a
: lot of work.(Note these old syle foot braces are considered dangerous
: because they can trap a kayakers foot and prevent exit during a emergency)
: I cut the fiber glass l brackets out of the boat with a hand saw. You will
: wear out the saw and your arms as the fiberglass is very abrasive and you
: will not have a lot of space to work. After I cut out a fair amount of the
: brackets I was able to peel off the rest . Damage to the inside of the
: boat was minimal. I cleaned it up with a little polyester resin and glass.
: I then bolted in Yakima foot rests. This is the easy part. The final job
: made the boat owner a happy camper.
