: Jack,
: Have you tried Wood, Steel & Glas, Inc. in Madison, CT? They apparently
: specialize in the stuff.

I got the strips for the boat I'm currently building from Wood, Steel & Glas, and the white strips are a mix of Northern White Cedar and Atlantic White Cedar. Having now used both, I definitely prefer the Northern White Cedar - the grain is straighter, making the strips easier to bend and get a fair curve. If looking for cove & bead strips for a kayak, look elsewehere. The shape is not a half-round like most places sell, so they do not do well on sharp curves. But they will work well for larger craft with gradual curves and some flat sufaces. And they are the least expensive strips I could find in New England.
If I buy strips in the future, I will go with Newfound Woodworks - got the strips for my first boat there. The wood is a little higher quality, and the cove & bead are the more traditional (and easier to use) half-round shape. If you want to mill your own strips, they also sell boards, but they aren't cheap. But if you are just looking for some white accent stripes, you probably aren't buying enough for the price difference to be significant. And if you're in the Boston area, they are close.
