I used saw horses. A hack saw blade in a handle will work. use a course blade and have a spare available. This will take time as your arm will tire out working blind in cramped spaces. You must cut the old bracket out as you have discovered, it will cut into the sides of your feet, You will need to figure out were to put the new braces . They will go near the top of the boat . try to look at some elses boat with conventional foot pegs. Be sure to allow for ajustment both forward and back when you drill the holes in the hull . With 13 inches of adjustment you almost can not screw up.
