Hey Gordon,

I didn't remodel my trailer since I didn't have a welder at my disposal so I did a search for kayak trailers, printed out the pic with the discription and price, and presented the pic and info to a local trailer manufacturer. He beat the best price that I found on the web by almost $200 and he included an adjustable stand for the tongue (said he didn't like to see the tongue of a trailer laying on the ground) and 12" tires instead of 8".

I figured by the time I rented a welder and bought welding rods and the material to extend the tongue after I bought a trailer from
Harbor Freight that I'd be better off letting the guy build it for me.(not to mention maybe a cutting torch) If you already have the necessary equipment at your disposal, then I'd say go for it, but that wasn't my case.

As it turned out, I wound up with $650 plus tax in mine, so I guess I didn't do too bad. All I had to do to haul my yaks was to bolt on the padded cradles for the yaks. And, I will have to admit . . loading and unloading the trailer is a lot easier than hauling the yaks in the back of my truck!

Anyway, I can haul yaks or canoes 19' - 20' long with ease. Good Luck on your endeavors. If you need any info or measurements, let me know.
