Since I've "retired" from construction, my 77 has sat a really long time.
I'm looking for info re what weight oil to put into it and what else I might do to be sure it is in good running order BEFORE pulling the trigger....
any suggestions?

: I agree as one of those carpenters with long experience!
: I do notice that some carpenters (mostly back east-no offence) do prefer a
: 'circular saw' over the Skill (which is a 'worm-drive'). Some of these
: claim not to like the little 'twist' that happens with a 'worm-drive' when
: you first start it. But the 'twist' is no problem to get used to and it is
: not much of a reason to pick the circular over the worm - especially when
: saw to saw the worm is so much better than the circular.
: The Skill worm-drive is a superior saw- hands-down. BUT for some week-end
: carpenters it MAY be too much saw (or just more than they need) and that
: is the only reason you MAY consider to buy a less expensive and easier to
: handle circular saw (not that Skill is hard to handle, it is just that
: most circular saws are a little more user freindly for the occasional
: carpenter who is not interested in having the best saw that is worth the
: additional power and skills).
: In short if you want the best saw buy the Skill 77 (MAG is lightest), but if
: you just want a decent saw for specific (occasional) project use: perhaps
: the less expensive ,'easier' to use saw is the best choice. If all you
: need it for is 'occasional' use: Go for a 'circular' and don't worry if
: you don't have the 'Best' saw.
: I went to buy a saw with my friend some time ago. He only does occasional fix
: up around his house and asked me which saw to buy. I told him the above
: info and he chose the Skill, but after years of 'no use' it is clear he
: wasted his money on a great saw that was more than he needed. I can use
: one Skill to build lots of houses, but he just has a little cutting to do
: once in a while. Different uses- different tools!
: I don't know which circular model is best, sorry.
