$500 is a ballpark figure.

$60 - $100 for off-the-shelf cedar boards It is cheapest if you can work around the occasional knot, and much more if you want clear stock.
$76 for 6 quarts (or $129 for 3 gallons) of Raka resin
$100 for glass fabric (25 yards of 38 inch 4 ounce or 3.75 ounce at $4 est.)
$35 for sandpaper
$25 for varnish
$50 for some new tool or tools -- usually a respirator, plane, scrapers, B&C router bits, or more clamps
$50 for disposables: brushes, rollers, mixingcups, gloves, plastic dropcloths
$100 Strongback, and the plywood for the forms.

You can go much less if you have all the tools, have access to inexpensive or free wood, use a simple 2x4 for a strongback, and buy glass cloth and resin on sale.

You can also go much more if you need (or want) to buy tools, choose to work with more expensive imported woods, or clear stock, or chose upgrades at every turn.
