: Hi. I would appreciate your opinions as to what "how to" book is
: best for a SoF novice builder. I need a stable boat so I'm hoping to build
: something halfways between a Greenland and a non folding Klepper.
: Any advice greatly appreciated.

I have books by Robert Morris, Chris Cunningham, Mark Star and George Putz. Each has somewhat different approaches to constructing the SOF. Of the four, Putz is the least "traditional" (and least attractive to me), using a variety of plywood for forms and srewed on frames parts. Give the amount of plywood, I think one may as well go all the way with S&G.

I am in the midst of my first SOF right now and use primarily Morris and secondarily Cunningham for references. Star advocates using plywood forms to shape the hull and then keep the forms for reference for future tweaks/adjustments in other boats. Since I don't want to spend additional money for plywood forms, I decided to use Morris and Cunningham who utilize more free form hull construction based on traditional measurements using the individual's body/limbs as measurements.

Morris uses the Greenland Kayak as the learning tool for other kayaks and boats presented in his book. Cunningham discusses construction of a general purpose Greenland kayak, a rolling kayak and one for children. In addition he presents material on making a tuiliq, a greenland skirt, float bags among other things related to GP style paddling.
