: One advantage CLC may have is that they offer a sail kit for their large
: barge.
Kevin, for a while I wondered why the Chesapeake line of kayaks were so big,,it wasn't because ChrisK (not small) was paddling them all the time, or because people said the CapeCharles/Patuxents were too small although the Yare/Severn were. I had the chance to sit through a quicky design of a fast double with Chris once,,as the lines were drawn and parameters put into the computer he kept going back to a fixed draft and came up with a 25"x25' double for a 500# displacement. So I say,,"that seems awfully big, what if the draft was 5.5" instead of 4.5"?" well the "displacement" shot up of course,,,but the design "had to be" that big for a set draft measurment. Same thing happened with the first and only Pax20 prototype I built, it was unintentionally sized for a 275lb paddler when built as designed before getting downsized to the present version.
I've paddled a few production doubles, NorthWest 2, .5, Necky Nootka, Tofino, Amaruck, Northwest, Prijon,Wilderness Systems and a few big sea kayaks to see that there's a HUGE range of possible flat water diplacements given gross linear dimensions of a craft.
