Hi Dan,

The strip in my photo is about 1-1/2" high and I glued up 6 ft sections at a time on my workbench. I had a 1/4 x 1/4" strip of dark walnut on each side and alternating ash and cedar pieces in the center. I glued the edges of the ash and cedar to the walnut but didn't glue them to each other to allow them to move or twist a little when I put it on the boat.

Be sure to post photos of your progress!!

: Hi Ben,

: Thanks for all the tips and tricks. The nature of the Endeavor kayak is such
: that there is a relatively flat survace about three inches high along the
: lenght of the boat. I'll start by following your advice and glue small
: sections onto the boat before I commit to longer strips. I think I'll keep
: experimenting with this strip quilting idea. The possibilities suggest
: that this is a fast and easy way to cut strips, then flip them over and
: rejoin them to build longer patterns. My wife uses an Olfa cutter and
: creates some great border designs.
