Hi All
I used clear packing tape for masking some fillets and found I was left with a lot of sticky residue. I didn't want to use any chemicals so experimented with a soft white pencil eraser. It worked really well.
A few rubs of the eraser over an area of residue seems to bind a lot of the glue and it starts to roll up into sticky blobs. Gently scrape this first lot off and then rub a few more times and off it all comes. Just brush away the rolls of rubber - it uses up the eraser fairly quickly but I could not detect any residue left on the timber at all. I did find that going across the grain seems to lift the stuff off better than with the grain.
Took me about 20 minutes to remove a strip of residue about 17 feet long and the width of the tape - 2 inches. I'll call it my aerobic exercise for the day. It's a fair effort but worked well for me - I have a lot of allergy problems and am trying to minimize my contact with all those chemicals.
