that's why this BB is so invaluable. Lots of different ideas from different perspectives.

I think I will go the epoxy route, as you say this will give quite a long working time. Here are the steps I am proposing all of which are for the S&G deck panels before the panels are attached to each other:

1) Trim veneer to slightly larger than the panel
2) Apply initial coat of epoxy with roller to the panel and allow to partially cure - this will allow absorbtion into the panel
3) While the initial coat is still green apply a second thin coat of epoxy
4) Apply veneer
5) Minor clamping with plastic sheets, external plywood and some PVC type clamps
6) Trim veneer when epoxy has cured
7) Carry on building
