Jason, actually the biggest reason the CLC boats weigh a little more is that the sheer clamp construction WITH adequate deck glass and under deck reinforcements for a comparable level of durability adds a couple lbs, also there tends to be a little more use of goop given the nature of the CLC directions and variations in gaps in the bulkheads, endpours, etc that goop is encouraged to fill.

I agree there probably is some apples to oranges comparisons on boats without hatches/bulkheads and those with. My experience building a few is that the difference is a couple lbs given equal neatness and efficiency of construction.
The funny thing is that by the time a person has made the hull making flush hatches is a no brainer that costs little.
