True, but then "Scarfs" is also what our basset hound does at dinner :-)
Decorative scarfing (the wood jointing kind!) would be interesting. Ted Moores does something similar (straight scarfs) in "Kayak Craft" to create a strip pattern on the side of the boat. Curved scarfs on ply would look cool and I'm sure a jig could be set up for this. The problem I've had with ply is the colored veneer layers are too thin. A local store here has 3-4 mm one-sided purple heart ply that I've been tempted to play with, but at $80 a sheet, it is not for experimentation! The veneer layer is so thin you couldn't even hit it with 200 grit paper without destroying it
