I think you are on the right track using battens to determine rib length. It will be pretty obvious which ones need to be longer or shorter as you get them installed.

One thing I noticed in your photo was that the actual rib may not bend as sharply at the chine as your battens do. The thicker rib will want to spread out the curve over a bigger area and you may end up with a larger radius corner which really isn't a problem since your chine is determined by the position of the chine stringer more than the curve of the rib for the most part.
