Hi Dave

I have the same suggestion about scoring the cut line first. The only thing I can add is to lay down a piece of masking tape. It can add a little extra help in keeping splinters down. I usually draw my cut line, lay the tape over it, redraw the line and score it and then make my cut. When I lift the tape off, I make sure to pull the tape perependicular to the cut and away from the wood.

Kind of a "belt & supsenders" method.
