Hello Pascal -
I also have a Makita 3620 but have only had it a short while so I may be missing something. Make sure your plunge depth stops are set to allow the power head to go all the way down. Do this by rotating the three set screws on the base so the smallest one is under the plunge stop and then make sure the plunge stop is retracted up as far as it will go. This should give you the greatest available travel for the power head. These adjustments arefacing you on the left side of the unit as it sits facing you right-side-up. I agree you shouldn't lift the shank out of the collet to achieve extra reach. Other than this, I'm afraid I wouldn't know what to do either. Good luck!

: Hi all,
: My routing setup for beadīnīcove is giving me some trouble. Maybe everything
: is alright and I am just worrying about nothing, but I would rather ask
: now that I still have all ten fingers....
: My router is a Makita 3620 plunge router, roughly 3/p hp. When I plunge it
: all the way, the collet nut only just extends beyond the router base. So,
: then insert my Lee Valley large diameter bead (or cove) bit, and find that
: it does not even clear the table surface. My table is melamine 15mm (0.6
: inch). The only way I can get it to proper working height is to partially
: lift the shank of the bit out of the collet cone. When I reach the proper
: height, I have only about half the shank left in the collet cone. The
: collet cone is still completely filled with shank, only there is no more
: shank extending beyond it into the router...
: The router instructions say to always insert the bit all the way into the
: cone. I cannot help the feeling that maybe I am not understanding some
: basic principle here. Maybe someone can enlighten me ?
: Pascal, first time router
: PS: Endeavour 17 is all ready to strip, with forms, inner stems and sheer
: clamps installed.
