Another (easier) method

There's a lot of others who didn't understand Cunningham's method. I had his original Sea Kayaker article and gave up re-reading it.

The frame is upside down. I have my bow and stern ends done then I temporarly lash the keel strip in place. I establish any rocker with pieces of wood that stick up from the deck beams holding the keel to the bend I want. Those are just taped or lashed for now. The keel is actually a guide at this point.

Then I start bending ribs. I use a rough tape measurement and make sure I'm about 4 inches too long on each. As a rib is bent, I place it in position, curve against the keel and spring clamp the rib on the insides of the gunnels. The next day I cut them to length allowing for the mortice depth and insert them in the mortices. It's so pathetically easy and fast. No forms, models or thinking.
