it works better. as far as putting a paddle blade under it keeps the blade next to the hull better than the crossed ones where only one crossed one is accessible as the other one is nearly parallel to the paddle and the one it is under allows the paddle to drift farther away, I've done three parallel lines, two double parallel lines, three double parallel lines. Two double parallel lines is good because it's four lines, something can be held under two with two above ready to hold something else. When using 1" webbing loop tiedowns you can put a plastic d-ring in the webbing loop for clipping map cases or place the d-ring under the bungies and it helps to hold them 1/16"-1/8" off the deck.
