Another useful tool as an alternative to a long file is the SS micro plane that Lee Valley sells (about $13 canadian - they also market it as a kitchen grater!). They are very sharp when new, very nice for removing material, and because they are long and flat, easy to get a feel for the correct angle. (Hey Mike, how's it goin'? When shall we see your yak?)
